Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Shawn Richey, D.C.

Tri-State Founder

Dr. Shawn Richey, D.C. was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and completed his undergraduate studies at University of Pittsburgh. In August 2003, he graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology.

Dr. Richey opened Chiropractic Family Health Center and focused on optimizing the health of families to athletes utilizing state of the art technologies and techniques. Holding educational seminars from sport injury prevention to overall health and wellness to the community lead him to becoming the official Chiropractor of the Pittsburgh Passion and provided team care during their national championship rein.

In 2013, Dr Richey redirected his practice to focus primarily on helping those who have been afflicted with Peripheral Neuropathy. Realizing that nearly thirty million people suffer from this devastating disease and have been told there is no hope, he has devoted his studies and research to develop a program that utilizes a combination of brand new technologies that addresses the cause rather than the symptoms. These painless treatments are safe, FDA approved, non-invasive and proven to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in most cases. He has seen thousands of patients in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia and has a 90% satisfaction rate. His main goal is to help peripheral neuropathy sufferers get back to living and enjoying their life.

Dr. Michael Scarton, D.C.

Dr. Michael Scarton, D.C. is a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a 1997 Cum Laude graduate of Life University in Marietta, GA. Dr. Scarton spent the early years of his career at a family chiropractic clinic in Harrisburg, PA. He experienced great patient results first-hand and quickly knew that he wanted to operate his own clinic where he could treat patients with everything from everyday back pain to chronic diseases such as peripheral neuropathy. During this time, Dr. Scarton acquired certifications designed to serve his patients including certification in Spine Neurology, MRI Interpretation, Active Release Technique, and many more. He believes that the key to solving a case is being an excellent clinician in all aspects; history, exam, triage, and treatment. Dr. Scarton now focuses his clinical practice on helping patients suffering with peripheral neuropathy.

With his passion of living an active lifestyle, Dr. Scarton understands the importance of helping patients to achieve and enjoy their passions of life. He believes that there is nothing more rewarding than helping patients get back to the activities that they love and are missing out on due to their condition. He brings his thirst for life to Tri-State Neuropathy Centers and applies his tenacity, clinical knowledge, and enthusiasm supporting his mission in restoring the lives of peripheral neuropathy sufferers.

Dr. Jared Yevins, D.C.

Dr. Jared Yevins, D.C. has been delivering cutting-edge care to his patients since 2006 after graduating Summa Cum Laude and valedictorian from Logan University of Health Sciences. His patient-centered approach to care focuses on disease and injury recovery, as well as optimization of wellness potential. Dr. Yevins emphasizes a gentle and personal approach to health care and believes that through effective communication and evaluation with his patients, that any case can be solved.

Dr. Yevins spent much of his career as the Clinic Director at Sewickley Chiropractic Center. During this time, he became an expert in the triage and treatment of patients injured in automobile and on-the-job injuries. He proceeded to become certified as a medical-legal expert and received numerous credentials in MRI Interpretation, Neurology, and Spinal Biomechanical Engineering. Dr. Yevins has been the keynote speaker for multiple legal seminars throughout the state of Pennsylvania where he taught neurology and physiology to plaintiff and defendant personal injury attorneys.

Dr. Yevins is excited about applying his clinical skills, extensive educational and speaking background, and his passion for improving his patients’ lives to Tri-State Neuropathy Center. He believes that the skills that he acquired through his demand for clinical excellence, as well as his public speaking engagements allows him to effectively diagnose and communicate with every patient that he meets.

Dr. Yevins’ unique credentials inspires confidence in those he strives to help.

Dr. TJ Clayton, D.C.

Dr. TJ Clayton, D.C. is a 2006 graduate of West Virginia University. He then attended Palmer College in Davenport, IA where he obtained a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. He returned to Altoona, PA to become Clinical Director for Advanced Chiropractic of Altoona where he has been in practice since 2011 with his wife Dr. Laura Bell. Together they have been interested in the overall health of Blair County. He spent 3 years establishing the chiropractic clinic in the Altoona VA hospital and is very passionate about caring for veterans.

Becoming the newest addition to the Tri-State Neuropathy Center Family in 2022, Dr. Clayton has seen firsthand the pain this disease can cause. Dr. Clayton has witnessed his own Father's struggles with peripheral neuropathy and decided to start helping more people in his area that are battling the progressive condition.

Dr. Clayton is highly involved in his community in Altoona, PA. When not helping people with their health, he is usually found at local little league fields teaching young children to love the game of baseball.

Dr. Michael Renk, D.C.

Dr. Michael Renk, D.C., a Baldwin, Pa native is a graduate of Robert Morris University, obtaining his degree in business management. He attended Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Mo where he earned his doctorate in Chiropractic. He returned home to Pittsburgh directly after graduation and has been in practice ever since.

In 2003 Dr. Renk founded Chiropractic Associates of Cranberry, where he specialized in the health and wellness of the entire family. Dr Renk not only believes in wholistic medicine but has made it the focal point of his entire practice. Dr Renk has spent the last years in practice as a consultant on workman’s compensation cases for the state of Pennsylvania. When Dr. Renk is not helping patients you can usually find him in the great outdoors or refereeing basketball games as a PIAA official.

After 25 years of service, dealing with all aspects of patient care, Dr Renk had the opportunity to return to his roots in the South Hills. He brings his passion to Tri-State Neuropathy as a driving force to help all peripheral neuropathy sufferers obtain their personal goal of a better quality of life.

Dr. Darby V. Kern, D.C.

Dr. Darby V. Kern, D.C. is a Pittsburgh, PA native and a graduate of Penn State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2016 and played Division 1 Women’s Ice Hockey. She then went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA in 2020, weeks before the Covid Pandemic broke out.

Dr. Kern has always had a passion for helping others and improving health and began practicing chiropractic in the middle of the pandemic at Sewickley Chiropractic Center where she has been a staple since, providing top end care to patients of all ages and backgrounds. With her holistic approach to care and focus on optimizing patient health and wellbeing, she believes that many cases can be treated and improved without the use of drugs or surgeries.

In her dedication to helping more people, Dr. Kern expanded her knowledge to learn as more about peripheral neuropathy and how she could help those with the terrible disease. Peripheral neuropathy hits close to home as she watched her grandfather struggle with the disease for several years and experience numerous falls. She is thrilled to join the team at TriState Neuropathy and to be able to finally provide an answer and the highest quality treatment to those afflicted like her grandfather. Dr. Kern strives to help her patients get back to doing the things they love, function their best, and keep their independence and is excited to be a part of this incredible innovation to treat and change the lives of sufferers of peripheral neuropathy.
